Need advice - in one-sided love with a friend?

I'm a person with bad social skills, atm he's my only friend, I'm in love with him but I can't say because of the cirstances, I could only if he felt the same but he likes me only as a friend and what's more he talks all the time about his feelings and affairs with others, it's a constant heartache which he doesn't notice, but without him I'd drown in loneliness. To remain with him or to leave him, both options are painful. What would be wise to do or how can I find balance? Any thought/comment/advice would be appreciated, thanks
