Black Ops Multiplayer?

A friend of mine just got Black Ops from europe, the game is in french, but when he plays online most people speak english and the names are in english, so I was thinking of also getting Black Ops, when I heard he also had Black Ops I was curious if it was possible to play with him online, but I live in Sri Lanka so I am going to buy the game in english but from sri lanka, even though we both live in sri lanka since his game was made in europe and mine from sri lanka (but its in english) is it possible to play together online or not?
