How do you do basic lining on a quilt?

Do you mean backing? When I make a quilt I use the floor to lay out the backing, wadding, and the quilt top, smoothing and smoothing to get out wrinkles (you can use a large table if you have one). Then I tack it, working from the centre out, horizontally, vertically and diagonally. Then comes the quilting, either following a pattern (which would have to be marked out, or following the patchwork pattern. Or you could just tie it every few inches (A knot similar to a French knot).
