Are the stories of Mohammed having concubines true?

I know that Mohammed received Maria the copt as a gift but he married her and and so one can say that she was his legal wife and there are also women such as Safiyya and Juwayriyya who were slaves but Mohammed married them before sleeping with them but I would like to know did he have any females living with him to whom Mohammed wasn't married but he had with them?
